Friends of Nursing Scholarship
The first students were admitted to the SHSU nursing program in January 2011 and graduated in December 2012. Since that time, the nursing program advanced to a School of Nursing and has grown from the first group of 30 students to admission of 60 prelicensure students in the Fall & Spring, an LVN-BSN, and a RN-BSN program. More than 230 students have graduated from the SHSU School of Nursing and there are currently 240 students enrolled in the program. There is wide diversity in the nursing student population including first-generation, second-career, traditional and nontraditional students. The rigorous nature of the nursing program requires much time and effort on studies which makes it difficult for students to work thereby increasing their financial need. Thus, this campaign is being used to raise funds for the Friends of Nursing Scholarship fund so we can help more students financially so they can focus on their studies and graduate as a safe, competent nurse who provides quality care to patients, families, and their communities.
